Students and faculty gathered outside to celebrate Kellenberg’s annual May Crowning on May 23.
Every year, the statue of Mary outside the main entrance is adorned with flowers by a selected member of the Kellenberg staff. This year, Mrs. Neeson did the honors of crowning the Blessed Mother.
Assisted by the Malverne Fire Department, Mrs. Neeson was raised to the height of the Blessed Mother Statue where she spoke about how Mary has played an important role in her life.
Mrs. Neeson told Fr. Thomas Cardone, S.M., about how she grew up in the Most Holy Trinity parish on the east end of Long Island and how she has reconnected with people such as her second grade teacher Mrs. Jacob’s through the Blessed Mother.
Fr. Tom asked Mrs. Neeson what her favorite prayer was, to which she replied, “The Hail
Mary, which I say with all of my math classes to give us a sense of peace, especially while doing
our math problems.”
Along with Mrs. Neeson, Latin Schooler Sutton Nasso was selected to be part of the May Crowning ceremony. Sutton says, “I was very honored and excited that Kellenberg chose me to hold the crown. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Seeing all the kids and teachers at Kellenberg gather together was so amazing, and it is probably one of my favorite memories I have made all year!”
As well, two representatives from every homeroom brought up a flower for the ceremony to commemorate the occasion.
The Kellenberg community was so blessed to be able to celebrate Mary together and continue this tradition.
