Article by Phoenix writer Lauren DeRiggi ’24:
The students in the Kellenberg eighth grade class recently participated in the annual Pro-Life Oratory Contest, which was sponsored by Mr. Robert Dougherty. Each student had the opportunity to write an essay on a pro-life topic of his or her choosing.
This contest is a collaboration between the English and Religion classes, where the teachers select 12 exceptional essays out of many to be entered into the contest. The essays were then judged by Mrs. Von, Mr. Basile, Miss Korzekwinski, Mrs. Page, and Mrs. Strauss.
Miss Vogel stated, “The purpose of this contest is to create an awareness and understanding among our students of the different facets of pro-life concerns and the ways in which these issues affect our lives. Their essays are a wonderful testament to their faith as well as their writing skills.”
Congratulations to the contest’s first place winner Alexandra Pilock, the second place winner Anthony Perrone, and the third place winner Nalanie Crooks!
