From Monday, October 21 to Friday, October 25, Kellenberg transformed into a hub of scientific excitement for the annual Chemistry Week. This year’s theme, “Picture Perfect Chemistry,” was applied to all chemistry classes in a myriad of ways allowing students to engage in chemistry-based activities and experiments. Some students chose a specific chemical element and were given the task of finding and documenting that element in real life. Other students chose the route which the chemistry teachers called “Instachem,” asking students to take a picture of an object used in everyday life and explain the chemistry behind it. Each student’s project was proudly displayed in the lobby for all to see and read as they pass by.
While the projects relating to the outside world were certainly interesting, chemistry students also participated in various activities in class to make the week especially memorable. Students got to discuss medical chemistry and photography which led into a chemistry scavenger hunt where they looked for chemistry objects around the entire school. Another day was dedicated to playing an exciting game of chemistry bingo and receiving periodic table stickers to conclude.
Bria Green ‘27 noted “Chemistry Week brought science to life through our daily experiments. This week sparked my curiosity and deepened my admiration for how chemistry shapes our world.” Overall, Chemistry Week shaped up to be not only informative but an exciting and interactive experience for all students involved.
